What is a .rsv file?

A .rsv is an unfinished recording a Sony camera leaves behind when capture is interrupted: a dead battery, a card pulled mid-record, or a crash. Your video is usually still inside; the file just lacks the MP4 container a normal player needs.

How do I open a .rsv file?

You can’t open a .rsv directly in a normal player, because it’s missing the MP4 container. rsv.repair rebuilds that container so the file opens like any other video: drop the .rsv in, click Fix video, then open the resulting .mp4 anywhere.

Why won’t my Sony .rsv file play?

No. The repair runs entirely on your own computer, in the browser, so your .rsv and the recovered video stay on your device. Can rsv.repair recover X-OCN recordings (VENICE, BURANO)?

Yes. An interrupted X-OCN take leaves the same .rsv scheme, and rsv.repair rebuilds it into a finalized .mxf that Resolve, Premiere, Catalyst, and RAW Viewer open like any camera original. The essence is copied untouched, no reference clip is needed, and everything runs in your browser as usual. Two differences from the MP4 flow: the output is an .mxf rather than an .mp4, and there is no playback preview beforehand, since no browser can decode X-OCN. How do I convert a .rsv file to MP4?

Open rsv.repair in Chrome or another Chromium-based browser like Edge or Brave on any desktop computer, drop in your .rsv file, and click Fix video. The tool rebuilds a standard .mp4 from the footage and saves it to your computer. No other software needed.

What if my .rsv won’t recover?
